Brief History of the initiative

On 13 June 2008, members of CEN (European Committee for Standardization) approved a document that requires updating of safety standards barriers (guardrail), which will then take account of the riders, reducing the risk of injury and death. For FEMA (Federation of European Motorcyclists' Associations) who turns 20 in recent days, there could be more beautiful birthday present!

Friday in Milan, the members of the Technical Committee on Road Infrastructure (TC226), adopted a resolution 319 by inserting a new element in their "program for the development of a European standard that reduces the severity of impact in collisions of motorcyclists with safety barriers, considering the existing national standards and current technologies. FEMA - and in Italy the Coordination Motorcyclists - has fought for nearly 20 years because the problem of motorcyclists, slipping on the ground after a fall, collide with the "safety barriers" or be seriously maimed or killed guardrail, were taken into account. Numerous demonstrations and awareness campaigns have been organized over the years at national and European level, resulting in various degrees of reaction by the competent authorities. Many of them - including the Italian ones - have refused to install any device that is not strictly conforming to EN1317, conceived and developed to protect all categories of vehicles except motorcycles. Some countries, like Spain, we are committed to developing its own standard, while Portugal has made it mandatory for the installation of law for the protection of motorcyclists on the entire national road network.

Aline Delhaye, Secretary General of FEMA, said: "With the road safety at the top of the agenda of the institutions, the decision of the CEN is a clear indication that the needs and peculiarities of motorcyclists must be taken into account to increase their security. With this new "Part 8" in accordance with EN1317, the authorities responsible for the roads across Europe will have no more excuses for not installing safety devices, wherever it is necessary to ensure that bikers can be maimed or killed on impact with the safety barriers. Sunday that Monterosi (VT) will take place on the Third Dragon Motorcycle Rally, organized by my motoclub .
Entries (7.00 € for the FMI and 8.00 for non-members IMF) will open at 8:00 am and will close at 11.00 when we depart for the ride in the parade that will follow the following path:
- Monterosi
- Monastery of Sant'Angelo (Care Vetralla)
- San Martino al Cimino
Caprarola (with a stop for a drink that will be offered by the City)
- return to Monterosi for lunch.

in October I posted on my personal blog a piece on the twentieth anniversary of the murder of Thomas Sankara in which, among other things, we recommend watching a documentary on the founder of Burkina Faso on the air in those days on the satellite channel, History Channel, a professor of Political Science Faculty of Perugia (Terni), Prof. Fabio Raspadori, was looking for a copy of the documentary for a seminar on Sankara who had planned to make and for this end insert google the title of the documentary and ends up straight on my blog, so contact me and ask me if by chance I recorded the documentary and, if so, if I can get him a copy of the record. Of course I responded with enthusiasm to his request and in addition to recording I sent the three books on Sankara in my possession, the moral of the story the next seminar will be Friday, June 13th at 15:00 in Terni and are happy to being able to offer my small contribution to its realization.
